STR started life in 2002 as Southern Tyre and Rubber Recycling and was set up at its present location in Newhaven, East Sussex. The company operated a small waste tyre collection service, collecting from mainly garages in the local area.
In March 2009 the company was sold to the current directors, who have 50 years combined experience in the waste industry. In addition to the wealth of experience gained from working at a senior level for one of the largest waste companies in the world, they hold formal qualifications required by the industry for compliant and effective waste management.
STR continues to operate from its fully licensed waste transfer and treatment depot in Newhaven East Sussex. Our site is approved by both the Environmental Agency and the local authority. STR is periodically inspected by the Health & Safety executive, the Environment Agency and the Local Authority. We are proud to say we always meet the standards expected and operate within the parameters of our licence.
STR has been successful in expanding its operation to cater for a wider range of recycling, recovery and reuse. In addition to end of life tyres, STR recycles rubber track, plastics and mattresses. We will continue to expand into other areas and adapt our approach to take into account new thinking and advances as the waste strategy for England evolves.
